Los Angeles’ only competitor to host the 1984 Olympic Games was Tehran. When Tehran declined to bid due to political and social changes in Iran, the International Olympic Committee awarded the Games to Los Angeles by default.
This was the second time Los Angeles had hosted the Olympic Games. They had previously been responsible for the X Olympiad in 1932.
The Paralympic Games of 1984 were split between New York City, USA and Stoke Mandeville, Great Britain. Please use the timeline to find details of the 1984 Paralympic Games on this website.
