Legacy of the Games
Construction of the Olympic Park for the London 2012 Games was concentrated on the Stratford area of East London with sustainability and legacy very high on the designers’ agenda. After the Games the park was renamed the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and is now used for many sporting and cultural events.
Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Brunei entered female athletes for the first time, meaning that every eligible country has now sent at least one female competitor to the Games. Women’s boxing became an Olympic sport for the first time, making these Games the first to include female competitors for every sport.
