Beijing China, 2008

At the 112th session of the International Olympic Committee in Moscow on July 13 2001, Beijing was selected to host the 2008 Olympic Games, after two rounds of voting. The other candidate cities were Toronto, Paris, Istanbul and Osaka.

This was the third time the Summer Olympic Games had been held in Asia, after Tokyo, Japan, in 1964 and Seoul, South Korea, in 1988. The equestrian events were held in Hong Kong.
