Barcelona Spain, 1992

Barcelona was chosen to host the 1992 Olympic Games at the 91st session of the International Olympic Committee on 17 October 1986 in Lausanne. The other candidate cities were Amsterdam, Belgrade, Birmingham, Brisbane and Paris.

Barcelona was the birthplace of Juan Antonio Samaranch, then-President of the International Olympic Committee. The city had previously bid for the 1936 Games, eventually losing out to Berlin.
